The Battle of Vertières

International Creole Day

Soup Joumou Day

February 11th, 2023  11AM -1PM

Soup Joumou is a traditional, historical dish made by Haitians since 1804. It is also sometimes referred to as “Freedom Soup” because this was the soup Haitians ate when they became free. As we approach Black history month and we remember the triumphs and struggles of our people, join us for a good time of community, tasty food, and honor our Haitian history. 

$12 for soup. NO PRESALE.

All proceeds will go towards supporting Haitian Austin Hub and PiklizHouse, two local Austin businesses serving providing community opportunities for Haitians in Austin, TX. 

International Creole Day

October 28th, 2022  6PM-7:30PM CDT (VIRTUAL)

To celebrate International Creole Day, Haitian Austin Hub is coming together with other Haitians in the community to provide three virtual Creole classes that day. We will offer basic, intermediate, and kids basic Haitian Creole.

Watch Party: The Battle of Vertières

November 5th, 2022  12PM-2PM (IN PERSON)

Join us in person to watch the documentary Egalite for All: Toussaint L’ouverture and the Haitian Revolution. This is to honor and teach our people and the people of Austin about the battle that led to our independence. After the viewing, there will also be a moderated discussion and Q&A. Children are welcome!

Haitian Heritage Month

During the month of May, we had three events: a free Kreyol class, a Haitian flag day celebration, and a pray for Haiti event. All of these events honored Haitian culture, people and history. HAH partnered up with Haitian businesses and non profits to make these events possible in Austin,TX

Bataille de Vertieres

The Battle of Vertières (Haitian Creole: Batay Vètyè) was the last major battle of the Haitian Revolution, and the final part of the Revolution under Jean Jacques Dessalines. It was fought on 18 November 1803 between the indigenous Haitian army and Napoleon‘s French expeditionary forces. We gathered around and honored the soldiers that fought during the revolution and educated the community about the battle. HAH involved the children and local Haitian partners to showcase the culture.

Haitian Cuisine day with Pikliz House

Haitian Cuisine Day was a pop up show put together by Pikliz House. They brought out the traditional cuisine you would find in most Haitian  household. People came out to support and enjoyed every bite of the food. Look out for the next event coming soon.
